When it comes down to racing titles for the SNES F-Zero was one of the most popular racing games for the 16 bit console. The game is often praised for its challenging difficulty along with its visuals. Many critics approved of the gameplay due to the use of Mode 7 which arguably made this game stand out more than racing titles for the Sega Genesis during the early 90’s.
If F-Zero was released for the NES the game would not have as much appeal as it did especially since it was an arcade inferiority console compared to the Super Nintendo. The NES did not have Mode 7 so pulling F-Zero off on the NES probably would have been impossible to do on a 8 bit console. Besides racing games were not as popular on the NES as they were for the SNES during the early 90’s. The fact that original F-Zero game was a SNES exclusive during the 90’s added to its overall appeal.
