Fortnite is arguably the most popular online multiplayer video game of the past decade and its popularity does not seem to be declining anytime in the near future. Its recently reported that Fortnite was the most played third party video game on the Nintendo Switch as it relates to 2021. While the exact number for Fortnite players is unknown the game was more played than popular first party Switch titles such as Super Mario Odysseyand Mario Kart 8: Deluxe. In fact, it reported this past year that Fortnite had over 390 million registered users during the first quarter of ‘21 across all gaming platforms. While Nintendo may not admit it Fortnite was most likely a bigger attraction on their Switch console than the first party titles they constantly try promote. As a family friendly third person shooter game Fortnite seemingly has no equal as it relates to overall active users and fanbase. Considering the fact that Chapter 3 of Fortnite came out back in December 2021 it would safe to say that the game is far from being played out. Also, Fortnite is more likely to stand out more on the Nintendo Switch due to the lack of family-friendly third person shooter survival games on that game system.
