When we think about two very popular video games from the late 90’s that was released for the PS1 titles such as Resident Evil 2 developed by Capcom or Metal Gear Solid Tactical Espionage Action creates by Konami. Ever since, Resident Evil 2 & Metal Gear Solid TEA were released for the PS1 console in ’98 they were both considered to be very successful titles worldwide. On the PS1 Resident Evil 2 managed to sell approximately 5 million units worldwide while Metal Gear Solid Tactical Espionage Action had least 6 million units in relation to sales. While Metal Gear Solid was more of an action-adventure stealth title where players had to use the main character’s ability to perform different tasks required to defeat enemies in order to progress through the game Resident Evil 2 was basically a survival horror game.
In terms of which game was more popular back in the day is questionable especially since they both felt like they were on the same level. But then again the Metal Gear Solid series has been around since 1987 while the original Resident Evil game appeared in ’96. Based on how long the Metal Gear Solid series has been around and the fact that it was the first 3D installment that we ever saw some people would likely give Tactical Espionage Action the slight edge over Resident Evil 2 in terms of popularity back in 1998.
