When it comes down to popular racing titles of the 90’s both Super Mario Kart along with Mario Kart 64 are two big games that comes to mind aside from the likes of Gran Turismo, Ridge Racer, F-Zero and Top Gear. Super Mario Kart was legendary because it was the very first game within its series. Also, the gameplay for Super Mario Kart highly resembled that of Top Gear which was also released for SNES back in ’91. Since its release Super Mario Kart has managed to sell close to 9 million units worldwide on the SNES. As much of a success as Super Mario Kart was for the SNES Mario Kart 64 was an even bigger following its release for the N64 in 1996.
Following its release for the Nintendo 64 Mario Kart 64 had managed to sell close to 10 million units worldwide. In fact, Super Mario 64 had better gameplay, soundtracks and level design level than Super Mario Kart and is considered one of the best 3D racing titles within the Mario Kart series in general. In terms of which game was more successful Mario Kart 64 will most likely get chosen over the Super Mario Kart game from ’92 all the way around.
