Ever since its release back in late 2013 the Xbox One has ended up being one of the most popular game consoles of the 10’s decade. However, in terms of sales the Xbox One has not sold nearly as much as the PlayStation 4 which was also released back in late 2013. Since the PlayStation 4 was released back in November 2013 the game console had managed to sell around 79 million units worldwide making it the best selling system if the 10’a decade thus far. One of the more interesting things about the PlayStation 4 is that the console is not backwards compatible with older generation games ft the PlayStation 3.

One of the most ironic things about the Xbox One having backwards compatibility is the fact that it seems like it worked against Microsoft over the past couple of years. However, it may not come as a surprise to many people that the Xbox One ended up selling less than the PS4. The idea of having backwards compatibility on a game console for older generation titles still allows people the option to keep playing Xbox 360 games could ultimately discourage them from buying an Xbox One to save money. This was especially true shortly after the Xbox One was initially released.

But recently we have seen more third party Xbox games that have also appeared on the PlayStation 4 such as Call of Duty: WWII, Monster Hunter: World, Fortnite and others which give people the option of choosing which console they can own it for. On top of that the Sony has a lot of big first party games on the PS4 such as Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War that have sold millions since their respective releases. While not having backwards compatibility may be a factor in the success of the PS4 versus the Xbox One it may not be the main read why Sony’s console currently has the lead in the console wars.
