When we think about the best selling game systems in video game history one of the many consoles that comes to mind is the Nintendo DS. There is no doubt that in terms of sales the Nintendo DS exceeded the expectations of many people since its initial release back in late 2004. Since its release the Nintendo DS has reportedly sold over 152 million units worldwide throughout most of the 00’s and the first half of the 10’s decade. To think that the Nintendo DS has sold more than the likes of the NES, SNES, Nintendo 64 and even the Nintendo Wii is simply mind blowing.

In fact the Nintendo DS was probably the best selling game console in the history of gaming next to the PlayStation 2 which sold nearly 155 million units worldwide. If anything handheld game systems such as the DS played a major role in helping Nintendo compete against Sony during the console wars back in the 00’s and early 10’s. While the DS is one of Nintendo’s best handheld game consoles in terms of sales it’s debatable on whether or not it’s the company’s best gaming device ever.
