Whir comes down to retro fighting titles of the 90’s The Fatal Fury series is considered to be underrated by many people. In terms of mainstream success the Fatal Fury series was overshadowed by games such as the Street Fighter II and Alpha series along with Mortal Kombat I-III. In terms of game many can easily argue that the Fatal Fury series had better gameplay mainly due to the two plane system included in the first two titles along with the three plane system featured in Fatal Fury 3: Road to Final Victory.

While Super Street Fighter Turbo II was considered an innovator of the Super Combo Gauge System which became very popular in various fighting titles afterwards the two plane system made battles in Fatal Fury appear more realistic which is something that stood out to many people in arcade centers back in the early 90’s. In terms on whether or not the original three Fatal Fury titles had better gameplay than any of the Street Fighter titles from the 90’s is something that is debatable among many retro games to this day.
