
When it comes down to 2D arcade fighting games from the late 90’s both King of Fighters 98 and Street Fighter Alpha 3 big titles during that time period. In fact both King of Fighters ’98 and Street Fighter Alpha 3 were released in 1998 which made that year in general interesting as far as 2D fighting titles are concerned. In terms of success some would probably give the slight edge to Capcom’s Street Fighter Alpha 3 over SNK’s King of Fighters ’98.

In countries like America Street Fighter Alpha 3 had managed attracted some type of mainstream attention despite the fact that the series was slowly started to decline in popularity. Also, in countries such as North America games like King of Fighters ’98 were commonly view as underground arcade classics that deserved more mainstream attention. One of the main drawbacks in King of Fighters ’98 was the lack of story that the game itself had. The home versions of Street Fighter Alpha 3 on the other hand had both an Arcade mode along a World Tour mode which added to the overall replay value of the game itself.
