The 90’s was truly an amazing time to be gamer especially considering the transition from 2D to 3D gaming towards the middle of the decade. In the early 90’s we saw several gems on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System such as the Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Illusion of Gaia, Actraiser and many other titles that seemed like they could not be duplicated on any other game console.

We also had fast paced platform titles such as the Megaman X series which made for some awesome run n gun classics during the 16-bit era of gaming that the world never saw on the N64. Two dimensional side scrolling platform games were special back then especially the more creative ones such as Actraiser 1 & 2 which were also city building simulation titles.

While we really didn’t get any games like Actraiser or the Secret of Mana on the N64 we got to see titles such as Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Golden Eye 007 and Perfect Dark on Nintendo’s first 3D console. Around the late 90’s 2D side scrolling platform titles had already declined in popularity while RPG and shooter titles were slowly starting to become popular.

In countries like America games such as Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark seemed more popular on a mainstream level then titles such as Actraiser or Mega Man X due to a number of different reasons such as sales and graphics. In terms on whether or not SNES mostly had better games than the N64 really depends on who you ask.
