When it comes down to the best em up games of the early 90’s both Streets of Rage 2 and TMNT: Turtles in Time are two titles that instantly come to mind. Both games have great visuals along with awesome soundtracks. The difficulty of both games generally depends on who you ask but the replay value of Streets of Rage 2 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time are equally as high. However, when it comes down to which game was popular also depends on who one asks.

If you were more a Sega Genesis fan you might be inclined to argue in favor of the Streets of Rage series in general. But if you owned a SNES in the early 90’s then Turtles in Time was a blast. But unlike Streets of Rage 2 TMNT: Turtles in Time was released in arcade centers before it was ported for the SNES. The arcade version of Turtles in Time allowed up to four players in a single game. Streets of Rage 2 as great as it was never had an arcade release and was a Genesis exclusive that allowed only two players. Also, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was very popular during the early 90’s and was much bigger than the Streets of Rage series before its inception. In terms of gameplay and quality it feels like both Streets of Rage 2 and TMNT: Turtles in Time are somewhat matched. But in terms of popularity TMNT: Turtles in Time was probably more popular than Streets of Rage 2.
