Its hard to believe that its been 30 years since Mega Man 7 was released on Super Nintendo. While Mega Man 7 was far from being the most popular installment within its franchise its also a game that has received way more hate than it deserves within the past three decades. One of the biggest criticisms about Mega Man 7 was that levels felt cheap and that it was subpar compared to what Capcom produced in the first three Mega Man X games. Also, Mega Man 7 was almost as hard as the older Mega Man titles on the NES which was somewhat of a turnoff to most people. While the graphics for Mega Man 7 looked well polished and was a huge step up from Mega Man 6 the game failed to capture the interest of many gamers that the MMX trilogy did on the SNES. If Mega Man 7 was released on the PS1 opposed to the SNES back in ’95 the sales for the game could have been significantly better since Sony’s console was gaining mainstream attention during that time period. One of the biggest complaints about Mega Man 7 is the spike in difficultly when players battle the final boss Dr. Wily. Some of the entries that preceded Mega Man 7 like MM5, MM6 and even MMX from ’92-’93 were more on the fun side opposed to being drastically difficult.

The learning curve in Mega Man 7 would probably be too much for beginners and its something that does not appeal to casuals. Mega Man 7 came out during a time period where the 2D run n gun genre was beginning to decline in popularity. If Mega Man 7 came out a few years earlier and was less unforgiving than it could have been a bigger success on the SNES than it ended up being. Even though, MM7 its not as popular as some of the other Mega Man games that has come out in the past its a game that still considered to be valuable in this day and age. Mega Man 7 is literally the only main installment within its series that has 16-bit graphics which is why its so expensive for those are interested in buying used games. Its actually quite shocking that it only took Capcom three months to produce Mega Man 7 for the SNES. It Mega Man 7 was the only game within the main series to feature 16-bit graphics Capcom should have definitely invested more time into its development.
