
Donkey Kong Country is without a doubt one of the most beloved and iconic platform games of 90’s. Donkey Kong Country was released back in ’94 and was arguably the game that put Nintendo’s giant gorilla back on the map in terms of popularity. Donkey Kong Country was game that was obviously designed to rival the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog, Earthworm Jim and other children-friendly platform games. But in terms of popularity it crushed its competition when it came out in ’94 eventually reaching more than 9.3 million copies sold on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System during the mid 90’s. The original Donkey Kong Country game had almost everything a hardcore gamer could ask for 3D sprites, challenging gameplay along with an unforgettable soundtrack. Players also had the ability to switch between both Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong anytime during gameplay. Even though, the plot for Donkey Kong Country was very basic some of the stages within
Donkey Kong Country was unlike anything you would see in another platformer. Donkey Kong Country is also considered to be legendary because it was one of the very first video games to feature pre-rendered graphics on a home console something that really began to take off after the PS1 was released. Not only did Donkey Dong Country become the third best-selling video game for the SNES but it also spawned two successful sequels in ’95-’96. The Donkey Kong Country games were arguably the peak of D.K.’s popularity because after Donkey Kong 64 his games were not in the limelight as much. The latest main entry that we got in the Donkey Kong Country series was Tropical Freeze and that came out a decade ago in 2014. While Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze is a fun game for the Wii-U it did not reach the level of success that the original Donkey Kong Country game did during the mid 90’s. Despite, its outdated graphics Donkey Kong Country is still a very fun game to play and its arguably one of the best non-Mario platform titles to have been released for Super Nintendo.
