The Yoshi’s Island game from 1995 is considered to be a classic for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Despite, not being quite as popular as Super Mario World from 1990 Yoshi’s Island stood out because of its childlike art style along with the fact that players controlled the green dinosaur opposed to Mario. In Yoshi’s Island Mario was an infant and Yoshi had to protect him throughout the game from adversaries like the Shy Guys throughout at least eight different levels before fighting Bowser in the end. Yoshi’s Island was officially known as Super Mario World 2 and managed to reach over four million copies in worldwide sales on the SNES console back in the mid 90’s. At this point Yoshi’s Island is almost 30 years old and Nintendo has nothing really special with the game since the early 2000’s when it was ported for the Game Boy Advance. Super Mario World 2 is arguably the best entry within the Yoshi series and its a game definitely deserves a 2D-HD remake for a current generation console like the Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, Nintendo is not too big on remastering or remaking old games from the 90’s with exception of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. Yoshi’s Island is an absolute gem from the 16-bit era and many believe that something special should be done with the game during its 30th anniversary which is coming up in 2025.
