Its hard to believe that the Ghostbuster franchise is almost four decades old and to this day its still considered to be a huge attraction within the 2020’s decade. When it comes down to movies the Ghostbusters series has been around since ’84 with the original film eventually becoming a cult classic along with its sequel Ghostbusters II from 1989. During the 90’s & 00’s there have been no high profile movies within the Ghostbuster series before ’16 however there was a self-titled video game that was released back in ’09 for the PlayStation 3, PSP and Xbox 360. The Ghostbusters video game was developed by Terminal Reality and Red Fly Studio depending on what port of the game one played and published by Atari Interactive. Aside from being released for the PS3/Xbox 360 a remastered version of the game was re-released back in ’19 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch while being licensed by Mad Dog Games. One of the most interesting things about the Ghostbusters game from ’09 was the fact that the setting of the game took place in ’91; which was about two years following the release of the Ghostbusters II movie from 1989. Even though, plot for the Ghostbusters ’09 game was canon at the time and could of made for an excellent film it eventually became non-canon following the release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife back 2021. There were various aspects of the Ghostbusters ’09 game that stood out following its release including its visual presentation, world design and the high quality voice-acting in relation to the dialogue. The game was also nicely detailed and allowed both single and multiplayer gameplay with various ghosts and other paranormal creatures that players could capture in addition to having a familiar cast of characters.

Even though, Ghostbusters ’09 was an action-adventure title it felt like a third person shooter game that resembled the likes Call of Duty and had controls that were somewhat challenging at the start. Despite, how impressive the Ghostbusters game looked it had its fair share of drawbacks that hindered it from being one of the best action-adventure titles of the early 10’s. Some of the criticisms of the original version of the Ghostbusters game included repetitive gameplay along with the story being short in terms of duration since it could be completed in less than ten hours. Despite, the criticisms the Ghostbusters video games had received it has managed to reach at least 3 million in terms of copies sold worldwide. The main question is whether or not we are going to get a video game adaptation of the Ghostbusters: Afterlife movie from ’21 which earned over $204 million in relation to box office revenue. While the Ghostbusters series is not as popular as it once was its quite possible that the franchise could possibly have a future in gaming seeing how popular the game from 2009 was.
