There are many people who are very excited about the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 movie that is set to be released worldwide next year. The Sonic the Hedgehog 4 movie will be distributed by Paramount Pictures and will be released worldwide in March 2027. Based on what we know the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 movie is supposed to be a film adaptation of the Sonic CD game from 1993. In this upcoming film characters like Sonic the Hedgehog, Amy Rose and Metal Sonic are going to serve as central figures. Sonic CD from ’93 was a classic that heavily focused on time travel which implies that the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 film will do the same thing. Sonic CD is a game that many gamers from this current generation are probably unfamiliar with since its more than three decades old. Sonic CD was a far better game than it had any business being on Sega CD in ’93. There are many people would argue that Sonic CD was better than the Sonic trilogy during the Sega Genesis era between ’91-’94. Its quite shocking that Sega never remade Sonic CD since its release in the early 90’s.

However, there are rumors swirling around online about Sega possibly considering the idea of remaking Sonic CD. Now would be the perfect time to do a current generation remake of a lost classic that Sega hardly ever talks about. Sonic CD was the game where Amy Rose made her debut in the series along with Metal Sonic. Sonic CD may not have the most popular game within its series during the 90’s but it probably the best 2D entry purely from a gameplay perspective. Since 2020, each Sonic movie released ended up achieving more box office success than the last one. The latest Sonic film from 2024 managed to reach over $492 million in box office revenue. The Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film came out the same year the Sonic X Shadow Generations game was released and it made Shadow the Hedgehog relevant again. However, it should be noted that Shadow the Hedgehog is a more character popular than Amy Rose. Also, Sonic Adventure 2 was far more popular during the 00’s than Sonic CD was during the 90’s. Despite, Sonic CD not being as popular as Sonic Adventure 2 the idea of a live adaptation of the ’93 classic was something nobody expected ten, twenty or even thirty years ago. If anything Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is a film that is three decades in the making and it feels almost surreal that its happening next year. While the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 film is coming in early-2027 the 35th anniversary of Sonic CD will be in 2028. Its possible might have plans on doing something special for Sonic CD on its 35th anniversary.
