As many people know the Phantasy Star series has been around since the late 80’s and produced many memorable RPG’s since the Mega Drive/Genesis era. One of the many games within the series that does not get talked about as much as it should which might come as a surprise to some people. Seeing how popular the PlayStation 2 was back in 2000 along with the fact Sega ended up discontinuing the Dreamcast console the following year Phantasy Star Online had a wonderful opportunity to shine on that console during the early 00’s. It was during this time period where Sega began lose ground to both Sony and Nintendo during the console wars.

On one hand Phantasy Star Online could have definitely been big on the PlayStation 2 especially since the console eventually had online games such as Final Fantasy XI, Resident Evil Outbreak and others which were somewhat popular during early 00’s. But on the other hand online gaming started to become more mainstream towards the mid 00’s following the release of game consoles such as PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii. If Phantasy Star Online was released during the mid 00’s for the PlayStation 3 or even the Xbox 360 it could have her more successful during that time period than it would of been in the early 00’s for the PlayStation 2.
