There were so many cool games that appeared on the 8-bit NES during the late 80’s that are considered to be memorable classics to this day. When we think about retro games that were big back during that time period titles such as Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest along with Mega Man II instantly come to mind. While Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest is considered to be arguably the most popular NES game within its series. Same thing can be said in about Capcom’s Mega Man II game which has been considered a cult classic since it appeared on the NES back in the late 80’s. The run and gun platform title was considered to be one of Capcom’s best games for the NES; since its release in ’88 MegaMan II had managed to sell over 1.5 million copies worldwide surpassing its prequel in terms of of sales.
The gameplay along with the difficulty level of MegaMan II added to the the game’s overall replay value for the NES. Konami’s Castlevania II game was also very unique especially in relation to its day/night system which would effect the difficulty of the game to some extent and added a touch of realism. The inclusion of Metroidvania & RPG like elements in Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest showed that Konami was much more creative in the game’s development than they were with its predecessor. In terms of which game was more popular between two titles some might give the slight edge to Capcom’s fast paced MegaMan II game due to how much cartridges it sold during the late 80’s-early 90s time period.
