When it comes down to the most popular game consoles to ever be developed by Sega the Genesis along with Dreamcast are two systems that instantly comes to mind. In terms of sales the Genesis and Dreamcast most like sold more than anything that Sega has ever made. But between the Genesis and Dreamcast there is no question that the 16 bit console sold more during the early 90’s . Since its initial release back in 1988 the Sega Genesis managed to sell over 30 million units worldwide. The release of games such as the Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy between 1991-1994 played a critical factor in the success of the 16 bit console during that time period.
The Sega Dreamcast was was pretty cool game console which was arguably ahead of its time. While the 128-bit Dreamcast was more superior than just about every game console that came before it in quality it only managed to sell over 9 million units worldwide. Not only did the Sega Dreamcast sell less than half of what the Genesis sold but it also sold less than the Nintendo Wii-U which sold over 13 million units worldwide since its release back in 2012. In terms of gameplay and graphics the Sega Dreamcast was about ten times better than the Genesis but was not nearly as popular as 16-Bot console.
