There is no doubt that Super Mario World is one of the best selling games ever made for the SNES. In terms on whether or not Super Mario World would have been a success on the NES is very doubtful. The graphics along with the visuals that the SNES produced for Super Mario World were among some of the main things that made the game stand out from the first three NES games.

Even though, Super Mario World managed to sell over 20 million units since its release in 1990 there is absolutely no way that Super Mario World would have been as successful on the NES especially since it would have been too similar to the first three games in the series. During the early 90’s people were starting to get sick of 8 bit gaming and started to embrace 16 but games after the emergence of the Sega Master System in the late 80’s.
