When it comes down to Game Boy titles of the 90’s both Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening are considered to be classics. While both titles differ in genre both Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins and Link’s Awakening were both challenging games that required trail and error in order to complete them both in their entirety. Both Super Mario Land 2: Golden Coins and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening looked like they had the potential to work on the SNES back in the 90’s since the quality of both games were great during the early 90’s.

Also, both games felt somewhat different from what we would normally see in Mario and Zelda games. Unlike, most titles in the Mario series Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins had Wario as the main antagonist instead of Bowser. In Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins players have to defeat Wario to help Mario regain control of his castle.

In Zelda: Link’s Awakening the game felt different due to the fact that the setting takes place outside of Hyrule along with the exclusion of Princess of Zelda. Despite, how different both games where from their NES/SNES prequels in terms of plot and setting both games were very successful on Game Boy. In terms of which game was more successful during the 90’s is highly debatable but some might give the slight edge to Link’s Awakening to being the more memorable of the two the titles.
