Both Super Mario Odessey and Super Mario 3D world are two of the most popular 3D titles in the whole series. In terms of which game is better overall really depends on how one looks at each game. As a multiplayer action platform game Super Mario 3D World was big on the Nintendo Wii-U and has managed to sell close to 6 million units worldwide since its release back in November 2013.

Super Mario Odessey despite being a single player adventure not only gained more mainstream attention prior to its release but also exceeded the expectations of many people. Since late October of 2017 Super Mario Odessey has managed to sell over 1.1 million units worldwide and from the looks of things can possibly surpass Super Mario 3D World before 2019.
