When it comes down to popular RPG titles on the Nintendo based consoles Earthbound  was arguably one of the most popular titles within its genre during the 16 bit era of gaming.  For many years one of the biggest questions that many people in the gaming world had in regards to the Earthbound series is about circumstances involving the cancellation of Earthbound 64.  As many people know Earthbound 64 was originally supposed to released for the 64 Disk Drive in the late 90’s but for some reason it didn’t work.    As a result HAL Laboratory and Ape Inc eventually started developing the cartridge version Earthbound 64 before it was ultimately cancelled in 2000.

While many people are bummed about the fact that Earthbound 64 got cancelled in 2000 it could have been for the best in the long run.  While seeing a 3D Earthbound game would have been cool between 1999-2000 the development team had reportedly struggled throughout the who process of making the game.  Besides the use of 2D graphics and gameplay is what drew people to the Earthbound series to begin with back in 1994.  If the development team for Earthbound 64 did not feel comfortable about what the final product would look like then the game could have been a complete disaster overall if it was still released.
