Its hard to believe that WWF No Mercy was released for the Nintendo 64 25 years ago. WWF No Mercy is considered to be one of the greatest pro wrestling video games ever by many people along with the likes of Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain and Smackdown vs Raw 2006. WWF No Mercy was the sequel to the critically acclaimed WWF WrestleMania 2000 game which appeared on the Nintendo 64 in late-1999. WWF No Mercy in many ways felt like a massive improvement from its predecessor because of new gameplay features. WWF No Mercy allowed players to brawl in multiple backstage areas unlike WWF WrestleMania 2000 for the N64 which made the game a major attraction. WWF No Mercy also included match types including Ladder, Handicap and First Blood. Also, THQ decided to replace the Road to WrestleMania mode from the previous game with Championship mode which allowed players to challenge for multiple titles including, WWF, Intercontinental, European, Tag Team, Hardcore and the Women’s title.

The cool thing about WWF No Mercy was that each title players challenged for had their own storylines with set requirements that players had to complete with every match. It should also be noted that losing certain matches would lead to branching storylines which would effect the overall outcome of the story players were involved. Championship Mode alone added to the overall replay value of WWF No Mercy because players had to compete for each title multiple times and win or lose a variety of matches to get different storyline outcomes. The Championship mode in WWF No Mercy allowed players to earn in-game in order to purchase new attires, weapons, moves along with hidden characters. The Survival Mode which was pretty much a seemingly endless over the top battle royal that ended once players were eliminated. The longer players lasted in the battle royal the more in-game currency players earned which could be used at the Smackdown Mall.

There were so much to do in WWF No Mercy along with different match types like Royal Rumble and King of the Ring. The roster for WWF No Mercy had over 65 different playable characters and players also had the option to create the wrestler. WWF No Mercy had a stacked roster featuring the biggest names of the Attitude Era and was unfortunately the last major pro wrestling that THQ released for the N64. WWF No Mercy is a game that has developed a cult following over the past two decades mainly because it felt like it was ahead of its time. In fact, WWF No Mercy inspired future games like AEW: Fight Forever and Ultra Pro Wrestling. WWF No Mercy is one of those games that ended up being far better in terms of quality than it had any business being by 2000 standards. Also, there are many people who would rather play WWF No Mercy than modern day WWE games created by 2K because the nostalgia is real.
