
Its hard to believe that its been ten years since the original Super Mario Maker game came out for the Wii-U. Super Mario Maker was such a big deal when it first made its debut because it was a Mario game that people have wanted to see since the 90’s. Being able to create your own stages using various enemies, bosses and level designs was truly one of the most innovative things that Nintendo has ever done in relation to the Super Mario franchise. Despite, its popularity its a game that sold far less than it should have considering the fact that it appeared on the Wii-U which was considered to be a commercial failure during the mid 2010’s. Super Mario Maker sold roughly over 4 million copies on the Wii-U and it ended up being the seventh best selling title on Nintendo’s eighth generation console.

The ability to share course while exploring the online hub to access various custom made levels were among the best features of Super Mario Maker. Its possible that Super Mario Maker could have sold more than it did if the Wii-U was not discontinued back in January 2017. Either way, Nintendo was able to produce an awesome sequel to Super Mario Maker back in 2019 that sold way more on the Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Maker stood out on the Wii-U mainly because 2015 was a lackluster year for Nintendo game releases. Super Mario Maker is a game that should have been released generations sooner and its a shame that the series started on Nintendo’s least popular game console. Super Mario Maker had lasted on the Nintendo Wii-U eShop until ’21 before it was discontinued which showed how popular the game was several years following its release.
