It hard to believe that its has been 30 years since Chrono Trigger was released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Chrono Trigger is considered to be one of the most legendary RPGs to have emerge from the 90’s decade. Chrono Trigger is a game that is still remembered and spoken fondly of to this day because if felt like it was ahead of its time. Chrono Trigger had a compelling storyline that involved time travel and featured 13 endings which added to the game’s overall replay value. The polished 16-bit graphics along with the active-time battle system were among the many features that made Chrono Trigger stand out during its time period. There are many who believe that Chrono Trigger was one of Square Enix’s better RPG titles for the SNES during the 90’s outside of the Final Fantasy series. Chrono Trigger featured seven playable characters something thats not too common in RPG’s nowadays. Chrono Trigger ended up selling around 2.5 million copies on the SNES console while getting a PS1 sequel back known as Chrono Cross in 1999. Despite, Chrono Cross being praised by critics and gaming magazines the game failed to achieve the same level of commercial success that Chrono Trigger did in 1995. Square Enix had pretty much discontinued the Chrono series after the 90’s.

Since its discontinuation we have not seen another main entry within the Chrono since despite popular demand within the online gaming community for over the past two decades. While Square Enix have not done anything big with the Chrono series since the 90’s its possible that the company may consider reviving the IP due to the latest games being massive flops. The Chrono series is something that hardcore gamers and even some casuals are familiar with. A 2D-HD remake of Chrono Trigger is something that would definitely turn heads within the gaming world today. While a remake or something special for the 30th anniversary of Chrono Trigger is something that Square Enix might consider a new entry within the series is something that definitely rock the game world.
