Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door was quite possibly the best JRPG from GameCube era and it still stands the test of time 20 years later. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door was the sequel to the critically acclaimed Paper Mario game which came out for the Nintendo 64 back in 2000. The Thousand Year Door game was pretty unique and had a compelling storyline that was both dark and intriguing. The story for The Thousand Year Door to place in a fictional city known as Rougeport with a new set of villains in the form of The Society of X-Nauts. We also got to see the introduction of villains like Sir Grodus and the Shadow Queen who possessed Princess Peach in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.

Even though, The Thousand Year Door was rated “E” the plot felt almost dark enough to be in a “T” rated video game. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door came out on a console that was lacking high profile JRPG’s which is probably why it stands out so much. The Thousand Year Door game reached around 2.2 million is sales and ended up being the ninth best selling title on GameCube during the mid-2000’s. After 20 Years Nintendo has decided to remaster Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door for Nintendo Switch; which set to be released worldwide in May 2023. Despite, not having the level of success that Super Paper Mario had on the Wii console from 2007 onwards The Thousand Year Door game was probably the best Mario title on GameCube. The was no question that the Thousand Year Door was a more exciting game than Super Mario Sunshine which also appeared on GameCube in 2002.
