The announcement of F-Zero 99 is something that almost nobody expected during the start of 2023. For about two decades the gaming world has been waiting to see a new F-Zero game but it seems like what Nintendo presented at their recent direct presentation was something that has fans both baffled and excited. Its cool that Nintendo is finally doing something with the futuristic racing series that has been dead for a very long time but many people were hoping for a 3D sequel to F-Zero GX title from 2003. Despite, not getting another 3D entry within the F-Zero series Nintendo has decided to do something almost as cool and creating a battle royale styled installment using the graphics, gameplay and stages of the original installment from 1991. F-Zero 99 is a Switch Online exclusive game that members can download for free which allows online multiplayer gameplay similar to that of Tetris 99. Players can race against 98 other opponents to finish in first place which will most likely be extremely difficult considering how hard the original F-Zero game was for the SNES. There are many people who view the release of F-Zero 99 as a good sign that Nintendo might eventually end up releasing a 3D installment for F-Zero in the future. But considering all of the projects that Nintendo is working on right now including Mario Kart 9 and Metroid Prime 4 it might be a very long time if Nintendo ever decides to release another 3D installment within the F-Zero series.
