It seems like Sony Interactive Entertainment has been getting a ton of mainstream attention within the past couple of years especially considering how successful games like Marvel’s Spider-Man and God of War ended up becoming on the PlayStation 4. When it comes down to first-party adult oriented video games Sony Interactive Entertainment has seemingly put out the best video games within the past couple of years which is something that is reflected in terms of sales. Marvel’s Spider-Man managed to break 20 million copies sold on the PlayStation 4 while God of War reached at least 19.5 million. It should also be noted that both Marvel’s Spider-Man and God of War are titles that are considered to be universally acclaimed by critics while setting new standards in terms of quality for 3D action-adventure video games. There were also titles like Uncharted 4, The Last of Us: Part 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn and Ghost of Tsushima which were also games that attracted mainstream attention around the time of their respective releases that many people still play to this day on their PlayStation 5. When it comes down to action-adventure games in general it seems like Sony Interactive Entertainment is unrivaled. However, some might go on record and argue that calling Sony Interactive Entertainment the best video game publisher of the modern era is going a little to far.

If you look at Nintendo their best selling game for the Switch console Mario Kart 8: Deluxe it has managed to reach over 53 million copies worldwide in terms of sales. It should also be noted that Animal Crossing: New Horizons from 2020 has managed to reach over 43 million copies in sales on the Switch console. Its no secret that Nintendo’s games are designed to appeal mainly to children along with a family-friendly audience. When it comes down to the modern era of gaming everyone has their own respective opinion on which company is the best publisher but it also depends on what genre you look at. In relation to genres like RPG many would probably go on record and argue that Square Enix is the best publisher because of their decorated history of creating high profile games within that category. Sony Interactive Entertainment is probably the best video game publisher of the modern era in terms of producing games that are mainstream attractions that cater towards adults.
