When it comes down to Batman video games the late 00’s and early 10’s was a great time to be a fan of the legendary DC superhero. With games like Batman: Arkham Asylum, Arkham City and Arkham Knight being considered 3D classics that all stands the test of time; there were also older Batman titles from the 90’s that exceeded the expectations of many people in terms of quality. Everyone knows that back in day Konami used to produce some awesome video games especially during the 16-bit era such as TMNT: Turtles In Time from 1991. Another popular video game that Konami had licensed back in the early 90’s was Batman Returns for the Super NES which was named after the film with the same name which came out in theaters worldwide in 1992. Batman Returns was released both the SNES and Sega Genesis but the Super Nintendo version of the game was clearly more popular. Everything about Batman Returns looked amazing from the beat em up gameplay all the way down to the graphics and various cutscenes between levels. The boss battles against Catwoman in the Batman Returns video game were surprisingly more challenging than they needed to be and fight against The Penguin looked hokey but had a sense of urgency to it. The gameplay for Batman Returns highly resembled that of Final Fight 1 & 2 with the exception being it was a single-player only title. Some would say that ’92 game was arguably the best Batman title to have emerged from the 90’s aside from the Batman: Arcade game that came out in 1990. Almost, every Batman title that came out for the PS1 was either forgettable or paled in quality in comparison to the titles from ’90-’92. Considering the fact that Batman Returns was arguably the best movie that featured Bruce Wayne as it related to the 90’s its not surprising that the game so good while being praised by many critics and gaming publications.
