When it comes down to upcoming Nintendo games in relation to the 20’s decade there are many people who have been waiting a very long time for the upcoming releases of certain games like Mario Kart 9 and Metroid Prime 4. While Metroid Prime 4 is currently in development Nintendo has yet to release an official trailer for Mario Kart 9 which people have been waiting to see since the mid 10’s. Its a well known fact that Mario Kart 8/ Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is one of Nintendo most successful racing games on a commercial level since since Mario Kart Wii from 2008. Both the original and the modified Switch version of Mario Kart 8 has managed to reach at least 50 million units worldwide in terms of sales. In fact, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe is one of the best selling video games for the Switch console and many people are doubtful that Nintendo could make a sequel that could surpass it in terms of popularity and success. While Mario games are heavily advertised and promoted by Nintendo on a yearly basis the Metroid series is one that does not get talked about quite as much. Its a well known fact that the Metroid series is far from being dead especially following the success of the Metroid: Samus Returns remake and the most recent installment within series Metroid Dread from 2021.

Despite, how popular the most recent Metroid games have been people have been waiting to see a Metroid Prime 4 for over a decade now. The latest installment within the Prime series came out back in ’07 when Metroid Prime 3: Corruption was released for the Nintendo Wii console. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption came out fifteen years ago and even though the game was not nearly as popular as the first MP game from ’02 it was one that many fans of the series believed deserved some type of sequel. Prior to the release of the very first Metroid Prime game the series had went on somewhat of a hiatus following the development Super Metroid which came out for the SNES back in 1994. The anticipation for a brand new Metroid game is what helped Metroid Prime from ’02 become a huge success because it exceeded the expectations of critics and fans of the series. Metroid Prime from ’02 reached over 2 million copies in sales on GameCube which was a console that was considered to be a flop commercially due to low overall sales. Even though, the Metroid series has not necessarily been on a hiatus the Metroid Prime series has been seemingly dead for over decade. The upcoming release of Metroid Prime 4 which has been confirmed has the potential to sell more than the game from ’02 seeing how the Switch console is far more successful than GameCube. Metroid Prime 4 is a game that is going to be over fifteen years in the making and there is a ton of pressure on Nintendo and Retro Studios to produce an entry that exceeds the expectations of their fanbase.
I doubt we will see either for awhile since “new” content is still being released for MK8 and remasters of the Prime trilogy are on their way.
