Does the Halo series have a bright future on the PS5?

As many people know the Halo series has been around for over 20 years with the very first game appearing on the original Xbox game system back in 2001. Since its inception the Halo series has reached over 81 million in worldwide sales; making it one of the most popular first person shooter franchises of all-time. During the past twenty years the Halo series have remained exclusively on Xbox consoles along with Microsoft Windows and has left its mark within the gaming world in past two decades. However, there are many who wonder what the future of the Halo series is going to look like now that Sony has recently acquired Bungie for $3.6 billion. While future Halo games appearing on the PS5 and future Sony consoles sounds very appealing they are most likely going to be overshadowed by first party video games. If you look at the PS4 the top three best selling games on that console were God of War, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End along with Marvel’s Spider-Man. Other top selling games on the PS4 included Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us Remastered and The Ghost of Tsushima. The games just mentioned are either action-adventure or action role-playing games which are obviously bigger attractions on Sony consoles than the first person shooter genre. Also, the PS5 is more expensive than what the PS4 was back when it was released in 2013. The release price for the PS4 was roughly around $399 and the average price for the PS5 today is approximately $499 which is pretty expensive today considering how much inflation as recently plagued the American economy. Even though, upcoming Halo games for the PS5 are likely to be huge attractions its going to be pretty tough for the series to compete with future Call Of Duty games that will appear exclusively on the Xbox Series X and Microsoft Windows. Its no secret that the Call Of Duty series is far more popular than Halo and has attracted more mainstream attention than probably any other first person shooter franchise within past decade. Also, the Call Of Duty series being exclusive to Xbox Series X will most likely help the overall sales of the video game console itself. However, its hard to say whether or not that would be the case with future Halo games and the PlayStation 5. But one can argue that the Halo series is still popular today especially since Halo: Infinite had at least 25 million players online after Xbox Game Pass owners around the world had access to it. Even though, the Halo series is not quite as popular as it was during the 00’s decade its still one of the biggest first person shooter franchises out there right now alongside Call Of Duty.
