Nintendo had recently announced on their Twitter that starting in March 2023; eShop access will be discontinued for users of older generation game systems. Nintendo had issued the following statement regarding the discontinuation of eShop access for the Wii-U and the 3DS:

It can be argued that both the Nintendo 3DS and the Wii-U are both obsolete especially considering how long both game systems have been around for. The Nintendo Switch is the game system that is currently selling the most in countries like America behind the PlayStation 5. The Nintendo Switch is currently available in retail for a reasonable price right now in comparison to the PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series X. T The average price for the Switch console is $299 and it might be a while before Nintendo release their next generation console.
