Its been over seven years since Mario Kart 8 was released for the Wii-U back in 2014. The Deluxe Edition of Mario Kart 8 appeared on the Wii console back in ‘17 since since then it has managed to become one Nintendo’s most successful games of all-time. Since its ‘17 release Mario Kart 8: Deluxe has managed to reach over 37 million copies in worldwide sales on the Switch console. In fact, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe is currently the best selling video game for the Switch console and it looks like its going to stay that way for the rest of the decade. While Mario Kart 8: Deluxe still remains a huge attraction in America; it seems like its an even bigger attraction in the United Kingdom. As far video game charts are concerned in turns out that Mario Kart 8: Deluxe is once again number one in the United Kingdom in 2021. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe is quite possibly the best installment within its series which has been around since the SNES era of 1992.
Considering how popular Mario Kart 8: Deluxe still is years later it might be a while before we officially get a Mario Kart 9. While we did get the mobile Mario Kart Tour game back ‘19 is seen more as a spin-off game than anything else. While Nintendo still has yet to announce anything regarding a potential Mario Kart 9 title for the Switch console; its unlikely that there will be announcement in relation to Mario Kart 9 anytime soon. If Mario Kart 8: Deluxe is still this popular in the UK for the Switch four years later than we might not see Mario Kart 9 until the mid 2020’s. The multiplayer gameplay, visuals and game modes all contribute to the overall lasting appeal of Mario Kart 8: Deluxe. At this point it would difficult to even fathom if Nintendo can develop a sequel to Mario Kart 8: Deluxe for the Switch console; that will come close to having the same level of success as MK8: Deluxe.
