Could Bayonetta 2 have worked on PS4 & Xbox One in 2014?

As many people know Bayonetta 2 was released approximately seven years ago for the Wii-U console. Since its release Bayonetta 2 managed to become one of the most popular action based hack n slash video games on the Wii-U. Despite, Bayonetta 2 having under 20 hours of gameplay its replay value was very high even though it failed to reach over one million in sales. Bayonetta 2 was seen as a hack n slash masterpiece by a variety of gaming publications with a variety of improvements made in comparison to its predecessor from 2009. While the first Bayonetta game from ’09 was released for multiple game systems including the PS3 & Xbox 360; Bayonetta 2 was a Wii-U exclusive which may have hurt the success of the game on a commercial level. Its common knowledge that the Wii-U console was a flop and that it was not nearly as successful as its competitors during the first half of the 10’s decade. There are some who believe that Bayonetta 2 could have been more popular than it was outside of the Wii-U if the game had a different publisher other than Nintendo.

While the PS4 & Xbox One were very popular throughout the 10’s decade there were so many games that had record-breaking sales on each console. The PS4 had the likes of Horizon Zero Dawn, God Of War, Uncharted 4, Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Call Of Duty: Blacks Ops III which all reached over 10 million in sales individually. Bayonetta 2 would have easily been eclipsed & overshadowed by the games that came out on the PS4 between the ’15-’19 time period. Even though, Bayonetta 2 was rated “M” and appealed to a more mature audience young adults in general especially in the US; American were more attracted to first and third person shooters and action role playing games. It seemed like action hack n slash games began to decline in popularity shortly after the early 10’s which also might have affected the lack of copies Bayonetta 2 sold on the Wii-U. Despite what console Bayonetta 2 appeared on in ’14 it still ended up being a good game in relation to its specific genre. If Bayonetta 2 appeared on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and the Xbox One simultaneously it still may have feel below the desired expectations of Nintendo and Platinum Games in terms of sales regardless.
