Sonic Generations (2011) vs Super Mario Maker (2015) which game was more popular?

As far as popular platform games from the 10’s decade are concerned both the Sonic and the Mario series has produced so many cool titles that eventually became successful following their respective releases. However, two games within both series that came out during this decade that somewhat exceeded the expectations of many people were Sonic Generations and Super Mario Maker. Sonic Generations was an interesting platform game because it mixed elements from the past such as stages and soundtracks from the older Sonic titles with present day gameplay and visuals give people an opportunity to venture through levels such as Green Hill Zone and Chemical Plant Zone in 3D. With so many exciting stages and the option to play as classic or modern day Sonic there was no question that Sonic Generations was game that hardcore fans of the series enjoyed. In fact Sonic Generations was probably the best game within the series that we have seen since Sonic Colors which was released exclusively on the Nintendo Wii back in 2010.

Despite, Sonic Generations being an excellent platformer as far as popularity is concerned many probably give the edge to Super Mario Maker which was released for the Wii-U and the Nintendo 3DS back in 2015. Super Mario Maker gave players the ability to design their own levels using items and foes from titles such as Super Mario Bros I-III so they can upload them online for others to play through. Since its release back in September 2015 the game has managed to reach at least 4 million units worldwide in sales and is considered to be one of the most creative Mario games that Nintendo has ever developed. As far as popularity is concerned the majority would probably argue in favor of Super Mario Maker over Sonic Generations despite the Wii-U not being as popular as the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.
