Could Hot Springs Story have been more popular on the SNES during the 90’s?

As many people know Hot Springs Story was a video game that was developed by Kairosoft and initially released back in 2011. Following its release this isometric simulation title was praised by fans and critics alike for its gameplay. While simulation titles did not become very popular until the 2000’s a game such as Hot Springs Story had graphics that resembles classic JRPG titles from the early 90’s that were on the SNES. Besides during the most of the 90’s it seemed like the RPG and fighting genres of gaming were more popular than anything else.

While a game such as Hot Springs Story might have looked appealing 25 years show on the 16-bit SNES console there is no question that it would have been overshadowed due to how competitive things were between Nintendo, Sega and Sony throughout most of the decade. RPG’s like Final Fantasy and platformers such as Super Mario World and Sonic the Hedgehog were very popular while the simulation genre of gaming did not catch on with the public during the early 90’s.
