Should there have been more racing games for the Neo Geo?

As many people know there were so many cool games that appeared on Neo Geo game systems back in the early to mid 90’s. We got see titles such as the King of Fighters , Samurai Showdown and the Metal Slug series which are still popular to this day. However, most of SNK’s most popular titles were within the fighting genre of gaming. When we look back at some of the most popular games to appear on the Neo Geo there are hardly an RPG’s or even memorable racing titles that comes to mind. While Sega has games such as Outrun, Virtual Racing, Super Monaco GP Nintendo has titles like Top Gear, F-Zero along with Super Mario Kart.

Some would argue that SNK having more racing titles for the Neo Geo MVS could have made the console more popular. Also, in terms of 2D graphics and gameplay there was no question that the original Neo Geo console was more superior than the SNES and the Sega Genesis during the early 90’s. But when it came does to first party games SNK was more interested in fighting and run & gun titles. Also, SNK did not seem too interested in having third party games for any of their consoles along with the fact that the Neo Geo MVS was priced at $649.99. When the Neo Geo was released in America which many people considered it to be too expensive. Even if, the Neo Geo MVS did have more interesting racing games it still could have ended up being a flop in America due to high pricing and lack of mainstream games in several countries back in the early 90’s.
