When it comes to top titles for the Nintendo GameCube there is no question that Metroid Prime was one of the best selling games for that console. In fact, when it comes to down to popularity Metroid Prime rivaled the likes of Gran Theft Auto: Vice City back in 2002. Metroid Prime was praised by various gaming publications for its 3D visuals, level design along with its atmospheric soundtrack. Also, Metroid Prime has also received numerous game of the year awards back in 2002 and reportedly earned over $50 million by 2006 which was very impressive.

Despite, how pop Metroid Prime was for the Nintendo GameCube there are many who question whether or not it could have achieved the same level of success that it did on the Nintendo 64. After Super Metroid was released back in 1993 everyone thought that we would be seeing a sequel on the Nintendo 64. However, its good that Metroid Prime was saved for GameCube because the nine year hiatus that the series took after Super Metroid was a factor that contributed to the success of the game itself. Also, the visuals for Metroid Prime on the N64 would have looked abysmal compared to what we got for GameCube in 2002. While Metroid Prime could have definitely been a success on the N64 it may not have been as popular as it was on GameCube.
