When it comes down to historic racing games in general two of the most recognizable titles within the gaming world are Outrun from 1986 along with the original Gran Turismo game which was first released in 1997. As a arcade racing title Outrun was huge back in the late 80’s and early 90’s and is viewed as one of the most inspirational racing games of all time. The 2D visuals along with the gameplay for Outrun provided players with an enjoyable racing experience that was worth spending countless quarters on. As popular as Outrun was for on multiple game con including the Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, PS3 and others there are some people who would be inclined to argue in favor of the original Gran Turismo game.

After the first ever Gran Turismo game was initially released for the PS1 back in 1997 it ended up becoming the best selling title for the the 32-Bit console during the late 90’s. In fact, Gran Turismo was probably the best selling racing game of the 90’s in general since it reached over 10 million copies in sales worldwide. Also, Gran Turismo was one of the first in depth 3D racing games where players had the opportunity to choose from over 100 different cars while earning drivers licenses to qualify for events in order to win championships. Gran Turismo was considered to be a revolutionary game that played a significant role in shaping the landscape of the racing genre of gaming. Without the Gran Turismo series there may not have been a Forza series. In terms of which racing title was more popular overall many would be inclined to choose Gran Turismo over Outrun.
