When we think about popular Nintendo Games from the 90’s one of the many titles that instantly comes to mind is the original Super Smash Bros game that was released for the Nintendo 64 back in 1999. The original Smash Bros game was one of the most innovative fighting titles from that decade and it ended up becoming one of the best selling fighting games on the Nintendo 64 reaching over 5 million units worldwide within a short period of time. There are some who wonder whether or not a game such as Super Smash Bros could have worked on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System back in the early 90’s.

After all, Super Smash Bros games generally have 2D gameplay which was a perfect fit for multiplayer fighting titles. While having a Super Smash Bros game for the SNES would have been cool back in the early 90’s it seemed like action-adventure platformers were more popular during that time period. Also, having a fully 2D Super Smash Bros game may not have been as popular on the SNES as it was on the Nintendo 64. The fusion of 2D gameplay along with 3D graphics was the best formula for the Super Smash Bros series
