When we look at the most recent games in the Mario Kart series 7 & 8 both titles were very successful following their prior releases. Since its release on the Nintendo 3DS back in 2011 Mario Kart 7 has reportedly sold over 17 million units worldwide as has managed to be one of the best selling titles in the handheld console. Mario Kart 8 on the other hand is seen as one of the most popular racing titles of the 10’s decade especially the “Deluxe” version which was released for the Nintendo Switch back in April 2017. The Deluxe version of Mario Kart 8 has exceeded over 9.2 million units in sales thus far and will probably continue to grow in 2019.

Mario Kart 7 on the other hand still has more sales than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and the original Wii-U game separately. While Mario Kart 7 might be inferior in terms of graphics the replay value was very high and had elements of nostalgia visually since it resembled Mario Kart 64. In terms of which game was better between Mario Kart 7 & 8 is debatable since both games are judged based on a variety of different factors including sales and overall quality. But in terms of which game has received more mainstream attention many would probably lean more towards Mario Kart 8 & Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
