As many people know the Nintendo 64 along with the PS1 were considered to be two of the most popular game consoles of the mid to late 90’s. However, as far as sales are concerned there is no doubt that that the PS1 did much better than the Nintendo 64 following its initial release back in December 1994. Since its release the PS1 has managed to sell over 102 million units worldwide and still remains to be one of the best selling video game consoles ever. The Nintendo 64 on the other hand despite having more superior visuals than the PS1 had only sold over 32 million units worldwide.

While selling over 32 million units worldwide was actually pretty decent back in the day the Nintendo 64 had still managed to sell less than the SNES which sold over 49 million following its release in 1990. While the N64 was not among Nintendo ‘s best selling consoles it certainly was not the worst seeing that it sold more than the Nintendo Wii-U did. The lack on RPG’s on the Nintendo 64 May have been one of the main reasons why the PS1 did better in sales especially with games such as Final Fantasy VII which ended up being one of the hottest titles on the PS1 in general.
