When we think about pop game consoles of the 90’s one of the many systems that comes to mind was the PS1. Since its release back in 1994 the PS1 has managed to sell over 102 million units worldwide and is seen as one of the best selling consoles of the 90’s decade. As popular as the PS1 was for the 90’s there are some who wonder if the 32 bit console could have been as successful back in the 80’s. There were so many cool games that were starting to arrive on the gaming scenes back in the 80’s on the NES and the Mega Drive.

If games such Castlevania, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Shinobi, Final Fantasy I-II and others appeared on the PS1 instead of the NES or Mega Drive those titles could have possibly bigger than they were. Also, in terms of competition it’s possible that Sony would have had more of an advantage over Sega and Nintendo than they did back in the 90’s. Also, having the PS1 in the 80’s could have forced Nintendo to jump straight to making a 32 bit console instead of a 16 bit SNES game system following the release of the NES.
