There is no doubt that the Kingdom Hearts series is one of the most popular RPG franchises in gaming history and has been praised by many people since its inception back in 2002. Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 sold millions on the PS2 and are both considered to be two Square Enix’s best RPG titles from the 00’s decade by many people. However, there are some who wonder if both Kingdom Hearts titles could have been as successful on consoles such as the PS1 or even the Sega Dreamcast during the mid to late 90’s.

In terms of graphics having Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 would have looked inferior on the PS1 compared to the PS2. Also, Square Enix was not too big on doing business with Sega back in 90’s since we hardly any of their RPG titles on the Sega Genesis, Saturn or Dreamcast console. Besides, even if Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 were released for the PS1 it would have most likely have been overshadowed by Final Fantasy VII which ended up selling over 9.7 million units worldwide.
