The is no doubt that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is one of the most popular platform games ever made for the Sega Genesis. Not only did Sonic the Hedgehog 3 have the best gameplay within the entire Sonic trilogy we got to see the introduction of Knuckles of Echidna. Along with how good the gameplay was for Sonic 3 the soundtrack for the game was legendary especially since Michael Jackson had a role in the composition of the in game BGM.

While Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was very big on the Sega Genesis back in the early 90’s Sonic Mania is game that was just as popular before and after its release in 2017. The nostalgia of having a game that was similar to the first three Sonic Mega Drive titles was something that turned many heads in the gaming world. Everything from the visuals all the way down soundtrack was impressive. In fact, Sonic Mania looked like it could of been a direct sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 more than Sonic the Hedgehog 4. In terms of popularity it would be safe to say that both Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic Mania are almost on the same level. As far s success is concerned many would probably give the slight edge to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 since it was released when 2D platform gaming was at its peak of popularity.
