When we think about some of the biggest racing titles to come from the 80’s and 90’s titles such as Sega’s Outrun and Crazy Taxi comes to mind. In arcade centers both racing titles where huge and had high replay values following their respective releases. In fact, Outrun and Crazy Taxi are among the most recognizable arcade racing titles that came out prior to the new millennium.

In terms of which game was more successful between Outrun and Crazy Taxi varies on what you look at. Outrun is considered to be one of the greatest arcade racing games of all time. Since its release in the late 80’s Outrun had managed to sell at 30,000 cabinets worldwide by 1994. Even though, Crazy Taxi was also a huge success back in the late 90’s some might argue the game was not as successful as Outrun. However, Crazy Taxi ended up being one of the best selling Dreamcast titles in America. Its probably be safe to say that Outrun slightly had more success in arcade centers during the late 80’s than Crazy Taxi did in the late 90’s following its initial release but this really depends on what criteria one uses to measure the success of each game.
