Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was without a doubt on me of the best games ever for the Sega Genesis.  In fact, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 had managed to all over one million units worldwide on the Sega Genesis following it release in 1994.  Even though m, Sonic the Hedgehog did not sell as much as its sequel Sonic 2 which reportedly sold over six million units on the Sega Genesis it was still an awesome game to say the least.

When it comes down to graphics and gameplay some would argue that Sonic CD was slightly a step above Sonic the Hedgehog 3.  After Sonic CD was released for Sega CD in the Fall of 1993 the game had also managed to sell over one million units worldwide.  However, some might argue that the Sega CD was not quite as popular as the Genesis console during the early 90’s and that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 may not have had the same level of success.  On the other hand having Sonic 3 on the Sega CD could have possibly made the game more popular than it was on the Genesis. However, having the first two Sonic games on the Genesis and the third on the Sega CD would not have made too much sense in the long run even if could have worked.
