When it comes down to 2D platform titles of the 90’s there were many games that many people enjoyed. The platform genre seemed bigger back in the 90’s than it does now in terms of popularity. With 2D platform games being very popular back in the 90’s there are some titles that many people believe never received as much credit that it deserved. When we talk about underrated 2D platform titles Aero the Acrobat is one of the many titles that comes do mind. The original Aero the Acrobat game was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and the Sega Genesis back in 1993. Aero the Acrobat was mainly developed by Iguana Entertainment the same video game company that worked on titles such as NBA Jam, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and WWF Attitude back in the 90’s.

The concept of Aero the Acrobat along with the level design was innovative and was set up in a way where players had to be precise in their actions on order to complete each level. Some would say the original game was too short considering the fact that it only had four worlds and five levels but it was so easy to lose in this game that it was probably necessary to keep a certain amount of stages in the game. The idea of having to complete each level in the form of a circus act seemed creative at the time and was one of the many things that contributed to the appeal of Aero the Acrobat.

As cool as the first two Aero the Acrobat games were they never received a 3D sequel which may have looked great on the Nintendo 64 or PlayStation back in the 90’s. Some people would argue that Aero the Acrobat was one of the many 2D platform titles that was overshadowed by the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Super Mario World along with many other games that were popular for that genre during the early 90’s. The Aero the Acrobat series could have easily have been bigger than what it turned out to be. However, the Aero the Acrobat series had arrived during the console wars between Sega and Nintendo. During the console wars Sonic and Mario were the main attractions in regards to platform games and that lead to many games of that particular genre to be overshadowed in general.
