When the Sonic CD game first cam about back in 1993 the gameplay along with the visual aspect of the game was very impressive. However, when it came down to the Sega Genesis no every had the Sega CD add-on that could be connected to the console. The only way people could play Sonic CD involving buy the Sega CD add on which started off at $300 in North America. The Sega CD add-on had estimated to approximately $110 more then the actual Sega genesis console. While some people may have felt that the price for the Sega CD was absurd it definitely paled in comparison to the Sega Saturn which averaged around $400 following its release in October 1995. Even though, the Sega Saturn did feature various titles such as Sonic Jam, Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic R those games were not received as well by critics or fans following their respective releases.

If Sonic CD was released for the Sega Saturn it could have been the title in the series that could have possibly been a success on that console. Not only was the Sega Saturn a 32 bit console that could have easily ran Sonic CD but the Sonic Team could have continued producing high quality 2D side scrolling platform titles for the series itself. One of the main problems with having a game like Sonic CD on the Sega Saturn included the fact that the console was too expensive along with being under-marketed in countries such as America. It would almost be considered a fact that people would rather pay approximately $200 for the Sega CD add-on opposed to buying the Sega Saturn which was twice the price of the Sega Genesis. If Sonic CD was sold on the Sega Saturn game console it probably would not have achieved as much success as it did in terms of worldwide sales. Even though Sonic CD did not sell as much as the first three Genesis games it has still managed to sell over 1.5 million units worldwide since its release back in 1993.
