As many of us know that PlayStation 2 home console which was released worldwide in the year 2000 is considered to be the best selling game system of all time. Since its release the PlayStation 2 was the home of many popular games including Final Fantasy X, Kingdom Hearts II, Grand Tursimo 4, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Tekken Tag Tournament and many more. Since the star of the new millennium the PlayStation 2 game consoles has reached over 155 million in sales worldwide which was an incredible feat in the gaming industry. When the PlayStation 4 was first released back in Fall 2013 the console did great in relation to first year sales. In fact, the PS4 sold more during its first year than the PS3 & PS2 did by reaching over 15 million units worldwide by the Fall of 2014. Back in January 2017 it was reported that Sony’s PlayStation 4 has sold over 53 million units worldwide. The PlayStation 4 has only been out for over three years and it already looks like its going to surpass the PlayStation 3 in terms of overall sales. With the release of the PlayStation Pro along with games such as Uncharted 4, Zero Horizon Dawn, Bloodborne and Final Fantasy XV.

Back when the PlayStation 2 was still popular we saw many awesome games released on that console throughout the 00’s. Despite not being too big in terms of online gameplay the replay value of many PlayStation 2 titles was high since many games on that console heavily emphasized offline game modes. While the PlayStation 4 places more emphasizes online game modes similar to the PlayStation 3 it was much more affordable following its release at approximately $400. In terms of pricing Sony was able to produce another advanced gaming console for $100 less than the 20 GB PlayStation 3 console which was originally priced at $499 following its release in back in late 2006. As of right now it may be too early to tell if the PlayStation 4 will sell more than the PS2. However, its almost guaranteed that the PlayStation 4 will definitely surpass the PS3 before Sony moves on the PlayStation 5.
